Lake Nakuru Lodge

Lake Nakuru Lodge sits in the south-east of Lake Nakuru National Park, near Nderit Gate, looking out over the lake and the grassland around it. Buffalo, antelope and baboons graze in view of the rooms and pool terrace. The park is one of Kenya's main rhino sanctuaries, with both black and white rhino, and lions and Rothschild's giraffe are also regularly seen. Staying inside the park means more time with the wildlife. Because you wake up in the park, you get an extra en-route game drive the next morning as you exit, which guests staying outside the park don't get. You can see the park in the early-morning light before you head on to your next stop. City hotels in the same category have comforts of their own, and the lodge here offers a different kind of stay: you're among the wildlife from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Rooms are set in gardens across the grounds, each with a private balcony or patio, and are named after their outlook: garden, Mau Escarpment or rock views. The Farm House rooms are in the lodge's original farmhouse, which was part of the old Nderit estate. Meals are served in the Mutarakwa Restaurant, which overlooks the lake, and there's an outdoor pool, the Mati Spa and a gift shop. The lodge can also arrange game drives, horse riding, bush barbecues and champagne breakfasts.
