All About 4x4 Land Cruisers & Guides

All About Land Cruisers

Our specially designed Safari vehicles are perfect for optimal game viewing featuring 4x4 Land Cruisers with a pop-up roof hatch and spacious sliding or canvas windows. These vehicles are utilised for both game drives and transfers between parks. Although Minivans are available as an alternative to 4x4 Land Cruisers we choose not to utilise them as they compromise the overall safari experience.

Air Conditioning - Most Land Cruisers do not have air conditioning. During game drives the roof hatch and windows are opened to allow fresh air in. For other drives the windows can be opened for ventilation. However there may be certain sections on the way to national parks where the windows need to be closed. During these times the vehicle may become dusty and warm.

Speed - Land Cruisers in Kenya adhere to a speed limit of 80 Km/hr and also Traveling long distances on uneven roads may result in slower travel times. However a little patience can greatly enhance your enjoyment of this magnificent landscape!

Transfer time between Parks - Some itineraries may include transfer times of up to 7 hours. Please ensure that you are aware of the transfer times outlined in your itinerary beforehand. If you prefer to avoid lengthy transfers you can book flights but this should be arranged during the planning stage to ensure proper vehicle arrangements.

Seats & Comfort - 4x4 Land Cruisers are equipped with six window seats (known as the long base) in the back and one window seat in the front for clients. The seats in the vehicle are designed to handle clients standing on them and moving around providing stability and sturdiness with a slight cushioning effect.

Accessories - When you reserve a Safari Land Cruiser you can expect a comfortable and well-equipped vehicle for your safari adventure. Our Land Cruisers come with various accessories to enhance your experience and make your trip even more enjoyable. These accessories include binoculars for spotting wildlife from a distance chairs and tables for comfortable seating and dining during the safari a picnic kit for a delightful outdoor meal and a cooler box to keep your drinks and snacks fresh and cool throughout the journey.

Breakdowns - Although safari vehicles undergo regular maintenance servicing and replacement the challenging driving conditions can occasionally lead to vehicle issues or getting stuck during the safari.

The likelihood of a breakdown is minimal and your driver guides are trained and equipped to handle most situations. In the rare event that the vehicle cannot be immediately repaired a replacement vehicle will be dispatched within a few hours.

If the vehicle is not back on the road within 30 minutes of a breakdown we recommend contacting the briefing manager or asking the driver to do so.

Back Problems - Clients with back problems or those seeking to reduce travel time between parks may consider flying directly to the national parks and reserves.

Airport Transfers & City Tours - For city tours & airport transfers in Nairobi we use a Toyota Minivan or a similar vehicle.
