Kenya Visa & Vaccination

Everything You Need to Know

Before traveling to Kenya, it is important to make sure your documents and vaccinations are in order. Entry requirements can vary depending on your nationality, transit route, and recent travel history, so it is best to prepare well in advance.

1. Valid Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of entry into Kenya. Ensure it also has at least two blank pages available for entry stamps.

2. Required Vaccinations

Yellow Fever (Mandatory in some cases)

Who needs it? If you are arriving from — or have recently transited through — a country on Kenya's Yellow Fever risk list, you must present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate upon entry.

Affected regions include:

- Most of sub-Saharan Africa
- Parts of South America
- Parts of Asia

What to bring: The International Certificate of Vaccination, commonly known as the "Yellow Card". Without it, you may be denied boarding or entry into Kenya.

Before you travel: Check the full official list of affected countries in the WHO Country List (November 2022): Countries with risk of Yellow Fever transmission (WHO PDF)

You can also verify requirements with your doctor or the KCDC (Kenya Centers for Disease Control) website.

For travellers from India: Find your nearest authorised Yellow Fever vaccination centre here: https://ihpoe.mohfw.gov.in/vaccination_centres.php

3. eTA / eVisa

Most nationalities require a visa to enter Kenya. Kenya now operates an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, replacing the old e-Visa. All visitors must apply online before travel.

How to apply : Visit official website https://www.etakenya.go.ke

  • Visit the official ETA portal and create an account
  • Complete the application form with your personal and travel details
  • Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a passport-size photo
  • Pay the fee online (currently USD 35 for most nationalities)
  • Receive your approved ETA via email typically within 3 business days
  • Carry a printed copy to show upon arrival

Important: Apply at least 2 weeks before travel to allow for processing time. Do not use third-party sites only use the official government portal.
