After breakfast, set off for the crown jewel of Kenya: the Masai Mara. Check in to your camp in time for lunch, with the afternoon free to settle in.

Full day in Masai Mara

Your second full day in the Mara means you can go deeper: follow a hunting cheetah, wait at a river crossing point in season, or simply be where the wildlife is — with no schedule to keep.

For an unforgettable start to the day, take an optional sunrise hot-air balloon safari, drifting silently over the plains as the sun comes up, finished with a champagne breakfast in the bush.

You can also visit a Maasai village this afternoon to meet the people who have shared this land with wildlife for generations.

Fly from the Masai Mara to the Central Serengeti

After breakfast, fly from the Mara airstrip to Tarime, complete the routine immigration stop at the nearby Isebania border, and board a second short flight to Seronera — the very heart of the Central Serengeti.

By afternoon you're game-driving across the endless plains on the way to your camp.

Good to know: light-aircraft luggage is limited to 15 kg per person in one soft-sided bag — your Kenyan guide keeps your main luggage safe and returns it when you re-enter Kenya on Day 11.

Full Day in Central Serengeti

A full day deep in the Serengeti. The central Seronera Valley is famous for its year-round big cats — this is one of the best places in Africa to watch lions doing what lions do.

Look for them draped over kopjes, the granite outcrops that rise like islands from the plains. Leopards rest in the sausage trees along the river lines, and cheetahs scan for prey from termite mounds.

Full Day in Central Serengeti

Another full day — because one is never enough here. Depending on the season, your guide positions you where the wildlife is: the Great Migration moves through the Serengeti year-round, from calving in the south around January–February to river crossings in the north.

Day 9

Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro

Enjoy a final game drive as you head south across the Serengeti's plains, then climb into the green Ngorongoro highlands. On the way, you can stop at Olduvai Gorge — the "cradle of mankind," where some of humanity's oldest remains were discovered.

By late afternoon you reach Ngorongoro, the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. On our Premium, Luxury and Ultra Luxury packages, you sleep tonight on the very rim of the crater, with the caldera falling away below you; on the Deluxe package, you stay in the highland town of Karatu, the leafy, coffee-farm-country gateway to the crater.

Day 10

Ngorongoro Crater Tour to Arusha

Descend 600 meters onto the crater floor at dawn, when the light is soft and the animals are most active. Around 25,000 large animals live inside this natural amphitheater — including some of East Africa's last black rhino — making it one of the densest wildlife spectacles on the continent.

After a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool, climb back out of the crater and drive to Arusha for a comfortable overnight stay.

Arusha to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, drive north to the Namanga border, where you'll complete standard immigration formalities to re-enter Kenya. On the other side, your Kenyan guide is waiting — with your main luggage — ready for the last great chapter of the safari.

Continue into Amboseli National Park, home to Africa's most photographed view: big-tusked elephants crossing dusty plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. Head out on an afternoon game drive as the mountain sheds its clouds.

1. Is a combined Kenya and Tanzania safari worth it?

Yes — if you have around two weeks. The Masai Mara and the Serengeti are two halves of one great ecosystem, and this route lets you experience both, plus Lake Nakuru, the Ngorongoro Crater and Amboseli, without paying for two separate long-haul trips. With fewer than 9 days, a single-country safari is honestly the better choice — and we'll tell you so.

2. Why 14 days?

It's the length this route genuinely needs: three full nights in the Masai Mara, three in the Serengeti, the crater, and Amboseli — at a comfortable pace, with no backtracking. Squeezing both countries into fewer days means more time in transit and less with the wildlife.

3. When is the best time to go?

June to October for the dry season and the Mara River crossings; January to February for calving season in the southern Serengeti. Both are spectacular — they're different acts of the same migration. The green seasons in between bring lower prices and fewer vehicles.

4. Can I witness the Great Migration on this safari?

The migration is a year-round circuit, so the herds are always somewhere in the ecosystem this route crosses. From roughly late July to the end of September, the dramatic Mara River crossings happen on the Kenyan side — Days 4 and 5 of this itinerary. Around January–February, calving concentrates the herds in the southern Serengeti. Your travel dates decide which act you see, and we'll set expectations honestly when you book.

5. Will I see the Big Five?

This route is designed for it. Rhino — the hardest of the five — is covered twice: Lake Nakuru in Kenya and the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, but few itineraries give you better odds.

6. Do I need visas for both countries?

Yes — Kenya requires an online eTA and Tanzania issues its own visa (available online in advance or visa on arrival). Pack your safari essentials in a duffel for the Tanzania leg, and leave the rest with us: your Kenyan guide takes your main luggage back to Nairobi for safekeeping and personally brings it to meet you when you cross back into Kenya on Day 11. By the time you reach Amboseli, everything is back with you.
