Frequently Asked Questions
The best time to go gorilla tracking in Bwindi National Park is during the dry seasons, from June to August and December to February. During these months, rainfall is minimal, which means forest trails are drier, less muddy, and easier to navigate, making the trek more comfortable and safer—especially on Bwindi’s steep and sometimes slippery terrain. The drier conditions also allow for shorter trekking times, clearer visibility for photography, and a more enjoyable overall experience, particularly for first-time visitors or those who prefer moderate physical activity. Because these months offer the most favorable trekking conditions, they are also the peak travel periods, so gorilla permits and accommodation should be booked well in advance. That said, gorilla tracking is available year-round, and sightings remain excellent even outside the dry season—the difference lies mainly in comfort and trail conditions, not in the likelihood of seeing gorillas.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience. After an early morning briefing by park rangers, you’ll trek through dense rainforest for approximately 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once found, you’ll spend one magical hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat, guided by experienced trackers who ensure both safety and conservation.
Absolutely. The Kazinga Channel boat safari is one of the highlights of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This relaxed cruise offers close-up views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and an extraordinary variety of birdlife, including African fish eagles and pelicans. It’s an ideal complement to game drives, providing a unique water-level perspective of wildlife.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many travelers opt for the East Africa Tourist Visa, which allows multiple entries between Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. Alternatively, individual visas can be arranged for each country. Your travel consultant will guide you through the most suitable option before departure.
Yes. All visitors are required to wear a face mask when in close proximity to the gorillas as a mandatory conservation measure to protect them from human-borne illnesses. In addition, it is strongly recommended to wear long-sleeved shirts and full-length trousers to protect against insect bites, stinging plants, and thorny vegetation in the dense forest. Comfortable hiking boots and neutral-colored clothing are also advised for safety and ease during the trek.
